My overall impression
This show is exactly what educational children’s theatre should be. It is always a dialogue and never a lecture. Katya is the audience’s window into the story and her charming curiosity encourages the audience to wonder and question as well. I was amazed and impressed with how the playwright, cast, and director managed to tell the story of a horrible disaster in such a simple, open, and personal way. Given the content, this production could have easily swayed into the territory of scare tactics and horror stories, but I appreciated the tenderness and love with which it was handled because it left me curious as opposed to terrified. Curiosity inspires much more constructive action than fear.
