My overall impression
This is a show I wanted to like and kept hoping it would come up to expectations. The show is written from the point-of-view of very bright 16-year-old, i.e. all wisdom resides in the teenagers and the adults are doltish, stereo-types, as seen through the eyes of an adolescent. (In that regard, it’s a lot like the musical “Spring Awakening”, which takes a similar stance.). Everyone works very hard to be entertaining, which I appreciated, but many of (what I suppose were) the clever and topical lyrics were lost through sloppy diction. However, the audience seemed to enjoy it, so it’s probably me being my curmudgenly self. Kevin Oeser and his cohorts are a very talented bunch of guys. I just hope that for their next project, they’ll turn their obvious intelligence and creative gifts to a project that takes a more adult point-of-view.
