My overall impression
I thoroughly enjoyed Maybeland. This play is written well and has a very good cast that truly breathes life into the story. I laughed a lot, and was also saddened at times. It was very interesting to watch how various situations affected outcomes further on down the road. The individuals within the family were portrayed by the actors in such a way as to really pull one into the story. What’s going to happen next? The Overseer was a character in the play that largely took away choice. What would happen if each of the family members actually had free will? It was fascinating to me to see how decisions, or lack of them, can lead to unwanted pregnancy, alcoholism, divorce, higher education, success and premature death. Without giving away too much, I would definitely recommend this play to anyone who enjoys theatre and wishes to see a thought-provoking, compelling story with a wide range of emotion.
