Taming of the Shrew has and is ever a problematic play to justify in the modern world with feminism and the independence of women. But add in a little bit of bondage and domination and oddly enough it all starts to make sense. Highly Recommended. I really enjoyed this new look on an old favorite..or is it new? Perhaps Shakespeare had this in mind all along? Mistress Kara setting the stage was such an inspired idea. We knew from the start where we were. Far from the typical bravado driven Petruchio, Dawn Alden, gave a lovely nuanced performance that actually showed that she truly wanted Kate with passion and might actual care for her? In the BDSM context, Kate's transformation was her own and Jen Albert reveled in it. Tara Donovan and Dana DeRuyck were a delight to watch as they took their roles in an unexpectedly fun twist. The cast was strong and direction was clever in the space constraints. Highly recommended! ... full review

A fun take on "Taming of the Shrew," if you have time to go out and support the fringe. This is one to go see! ... full review

Okay. I was duped. I came to try the show ready to be enticed and turned-on, 50 Shades-Style. But I wasn't. What happened instead was a fun time, and a renewed appreciation for Shakespeare. And a great reason to breakout and start reading my "Complete Works.". Congrats Ladies!... full review

I am a huge fan of Shakespeare, but I've always had issue with Taming of the Shrew because of its misogynistic tone. Never in a million years would I think that by bringing the idea of BDSM into the mix the show would not only make more sense, but I would see Petruchio in an entirely different and actually quite charming light! The incredibly talented ladies of Broads' Word Theatre are not to be missed at this year's Fringe! Their command and understanding of Shakespeare's language paired with director Danielle Ozymandias's fantastic staging makes Fifty Shades Of Shrew a must-see show!!!... full review

Wow, this show is superb! I was able to squeeze into the sold-out theatre to see it last night and it did not disappoint! I must admit that my Shakespeare is quite rusty, so I was a bit worried whether I would be able to follow along. I had nothing to be nervous about though, because the all-female cast had such a command and strong understanding of the language, that I understood everything that was going on. Brilliant acting by the entire ensemble and perfectly directed/staged. This is probably some of the strongest acting I have ever seen at Fringe. I must add that I can't believe how well BDSM and Taming Of The Shrew go together. From now on, I won't be able to view Shrew any other way. I know the Bard himself would approve!... full review

An excellent adaptation of a Shakespeare play! I saw the show twice and I still got some surprises the second time around, picking up on the more nuanced aspects of the performances. I love the fast paced humor, the costumes, and the wonderful cast!... full review

I was very impressed with this production. The captured the flavor of Shakespeare while giving it their own twist. For the small space they had, they made each scene come to life. The actors had a great command of the language, making it easy for Shakespeare fans and non-fans to follow the plot. The costumes were stars in themselves, each had great attention to detail, and just looked damn good. Though all the actors brought their game to the show, the two who played Pertruchio and Katherine stood a slight inch above the rest. The actor playing Tranio was also a pleasure to watch, bringing a style to the character that was all her own. My only negative comment is that I wish there had been a little bit more BDSM in the show. Yes, there... full review

We know Shakespeare could be a bit bawdy....but was Taming of the Shrew really about S&M? That's one interpretation which director Danielle Ozymandias puts forth in 50 Shades of Shrew at the Fringe. This all female adaptation of the Bards work is a hilarious romp through a BDSM dungeon where the characters explore the dynamics of power and submission. It works, thanks to a superb cast led by Dawn Alden as Petruchio and Jen Albert as Kate. There are no elaborate sets, but there's no need in this production. You have some wildly erotic costumes to make up for the simple mise en scene. Art thou curious? Then you should check out this latest offering from the Broads Word Theatre ensemble. It's playing through the 27th.... full review
