My overall impression

I brought friends of mine down from San Francisco to this show and they, like I, loved the hour that was Craig Shaynak’s ‘Fat, Bald and Loud’.

Its entertainment right from the word go, as a security guard at the door (bearing an amazing and striking resemblance to Craig himself – must be a twin or something) relieves the often boring wait for the performance by hilariously making sure no weapons or illegal substances are being concealed.

We enter the theatre and immediately the main man is again entertaining us before the show really kicks off with some playful banter with a lovely lady in the front row as well as others.

Then the show begins and the affable Craig and his many different costumes, accents and characters hold you captive, amused and laughing all the way through.

We start with his constantly smoking parents and how they helped get him into show business (drawing a very noticeable and high-pitched laugh from the back of the room) and make our way through various well-acted out scenes with the wheel of accents and end on a rapid-fire-round-the-wheel extravaganza.

Craig is a very funny, warm, friendly, lovable man and highly inventive and talented.

He was only upstaged about 10 minutes into the show when a fairly large spider drifted down behind him on a strand of silk and disappeared under the curtain to the right of the stage.

Completely unnoticed by Craig himself, but we all saw it. Or maybe it was a cleverly disguised scripted part of the show? Who knows? Only him. The plot thickens!

Either way, as amusing as the spider interlude was, it didn’t stop us keeping attention on the big man himself.

A great and highly recommended show indeed.
