BEYOND - Unemployed. Finally.

I loved loved LOVED this show! I meant to write a review right when I got home from the show on June 27th, but it's been a crazy couple of weeks. As I think about what to write, I'm struck about how in my memory it feels like I watched a fully produced play with a cast of about 15 characters (albeit characters that all looked like Heather Dowling), In reality, it was a basic black box theatre featuring a one-woman show. This just goes to show how good this show was and how talented its writer/performer is. Heather, you're a genius. Knowing you personally before you took on acting as a profession and seeing you in your first performance in a solo show, has re-inspired me about what's possible when you are passionate and dedicated. I did not expect to laugh so much, be so touched by the intimate stories of your life, and truly believe each of the characters you portrayed, giving color to the show that took us through the stories of a girl seeking the right "job" in life. Heather Dowling is brilliant and engaging as she takes us through her expertly crafted, heart-wrenching journey from age 14 to being “Unemployed, Finally”. Living through and counting every job with her, I traveled back and forth between hilarity and pathos . Amazing how Heather can transform her beautiful face into the very diverse medley of characters she so effectively introduces us to along the way. Especially engaging and amusing are her two competing inner voices, Winnie and Karen, who kept popping up to give her their opposing versions of guiding wisdom. Hilarious show that everyone can relate to: the journey of finding oneself and one's purpose. Heather is a masterful storyteller, and does an excellent job of keeping you engaged through her myriad of characters, each of which she transforms into seamlessly.
