Bye Bye Bombay is a multimedia adventure featuring music, puppets, slide shows, and characters (all played by Cara Yeates) ranging from a young girl seeking to connect with her mother through her mother’s Bollywood film past to Bollywood producers, shop owners and those in between. The story and performance beautifully touch upon a full range of personal and societal issues such as alienation and feelings of personal powerlessness but ultimately it teaches us the power of compassion and inter-connectivity. While a thoroughly engaging and fast paced performance, the power lies in the subtlety of the message.
This is a show that will entertain with a finely executed balance of humor and emotion while viewing, but will provoke thought and introspection for some time after, leaving one with the desire to see it again to find more gems and answers hidden in the fast paced, intricately woven narrative. You will be entertained as well as feel like you’ve learned just a little bit more about life.
