My overall impression

Mostly, this play felt awfully repetitive and typically misanthropic without being particularly insightful. Each of its scenes just a small variation on the other and each is extremely pessimistic. A little balance might have served the show well. The production suffered from the limitations of the space and there were major distractions from the adjoining bar throughout the show. Probably even more annoying for the performers than the audience, but still a major issue. The show gets a major jolt halfway through when the character of Lindsay (Rachel Parker) makes her appearance, perfectly capturing her character’s years of pent-up hatred and vitriol though beneath it all, the pain, hurt and even the love she felt from years prior were clear. A difficult high wire act for any performer that she navigated beautifully. The show also got some much needed charm from Katherine Diaz as Reggie in the final scene of the show. But those two skillful characterizations were not enough to lift the show from drowning in its own self-importance.
