There’s certainly no shortage of poorly-written screenplays in this town! And if they’re not exactly paid homage, at least one scribbler’s doomed pages are seeing a light other than that of an agency basement incinerator. In “Star-Crossed Love,” The Magnum Opus Players skillfully enact every formulaic deficit of a story so painfully lowbrow, staying true to its unedited artlessness and literal stage direction… and the result is ABSOLUTELYHILARIOUS!!! Only some of THEBEST actors in LA could take such crap and make it uproarious masterpiece theater. The audience receives a warning that it’s OK TO LAUGH, assuming that for the first 10 seconds, it might misconstrue this as a novice ensemble. Trust me — the heads-up’s unnecessary, because from the second we’re met with the cast’s melodramatic introductory pose, we’re aware we’re witnessing comic GENIUS. I’ve seen this TWICE, and it thrills me no less to know what’s comin’. I can’t recommend Magnum Opus enough! GO!
