The Last Remnants of Cops, Robbers & Hollywood Cowboys: Small Scale but Fascinating
By John Farrell

The Last Remnants of Cops, Robbers & Hollywood Cowboys doesn’t depend on fancy theatrics for its considerable charm.

Based on short stories by writer-director Tom Cavanaugh, the play has little action, with actors taking directly to the audience, sometimes sitting stage-side to tell their particular story.

But the stories, based on reality and collected by Cavanaugh by listening to people he meets and overhears in Los Angeles, are fascinating and moving.

Six actors: Laura Raynor, Chris Narrie, John Ross Clark, Rhonda Christou, Anita Leeman and Tad Yagi tell Cavanaugh’s stories, which depend on the detailed narrative voice he brings to the stage, with the actors cooperating with him. Writer-director Tom Cavanaugh introduces us to a Skid Row clinical patient with an attractive MySpace page, a high-priced “courtesan” who’s appeared on the Howard Stern show, a career stuntman with a long list of famous movie credits, a guy named Joey Cheesesteaks who delivers sandwiches direct from Philly for a local clientele, and other people you might meet in bars or coffee shops around town with absolutely compelling and often downright noble stories to tell. Each of the six actors delivers a strong, moving characterization in this show which...

THE LOS ANGELES PREMIERE OF THE LAST REMNANTS OF COPS, ROBBERS & HOLYWOOD COWBOYS

April 25, 2014

Los Angeles, CA – A love song to his adopted city, Tom Cavanaugh’s THE LAST REMNANTS OF COPS, ROBBERS & HOLYWOOD COWBOYS will have its Los Angeles premiere in the 2014 Hollywood Fringe Festival from June 12th through 29th. The press preview performance will take place on June 5th at 7pm. The forty-five minute drama, which features eight monologues delivered by six actors, will play at the East Theatre at The Complex at 6476 Santa Monica Blvd.

“Some of the characters I met when I moved out here are vanishing due to the gentrification of neighborhoods ranging from downtown to Hollywood,” says Cavanaugh. “These are true stories and experiences told to me by the real people of L.A. They are sad, funny, pitiful and amazing all at once!”
