My overall impression

For a musical theatre buff like myself, seeing [title of show] in a city full of national tours and musical parodies is a breath of fresh air. I must disclaim, though, that being very familiar with the original cast of [tos], the people who inspired and wrote the musical have infiltrated my vision for what this show is supposed to be. My own personal bias aside, you have to applaud this cast for taking on such difficult material that might seem easy and effortless to an untrained ear. Without comparing them at all to their real life counterparts, Chris Maikish and Heather Lake gave stellar performances as Jeff and Heidi, respectively. Their onstage chemistry was sublime, and they made the material sing—even when they were speaking. It was also a joy to hear the changes to the script in (what I assume is) the Broadway version of the script, having been so used to the off-Broadway version. This Fringe revival of [title of show] is worth seeing, especially to those unfamiliar with the play. I think a lot of us Fringe-ers can definitely relate to the [tos]-ers and have some well worth life lessons to learn about art and success from Hunter Bell and Jeff Bowen.
