Everyone knows of Dostoyevsky, Pushkin, and Tolstoy. Few people know of Anna Akhmatova, a Russian poet who lived through the fall of the Tsars, through the horrors of Lenin and the repression of Stalin. She was one of the few artists who chose to stay in Russia and chronicle the events she witnessed. Due to her courage, her work was censored by the state. One of her most notable works, Requiem, was so strongly censored it did not resurface until the 1980s with the fall of the USSR. Poet. Mother. Woman. We follow her path of love, grief, and perseverance as she fights for the little light she has left in her life and does her best to mark what is going on around her. In a nation of the voiceless, she gave her people a voice. In a time of darkness, she chronicled the light.
