The Werewolves of Hollywood Blvd: A Damnable Rock Musical

The sheer ambition and scope of this piece is worth the 'Amazing' button all by itself, with a narrative ranging from Age of Enlightenment Europe to 2008 America, smashing together the financial crisis, werewolves, sexual repression/aggression, vampires, and what it means to be human into a spicy burrito of rock music that'll blast you out of your seat, if only you could get your toes to stop tapping. How to escape somebody who rules the world? Somebody who feeds you, clothes you, and puts gas in your car? As a longtime Orwell fan, it was great to see so many of his great pieces come alive in Larry Cedar's hands. The simple structure of the play and Cedar's rapid delivery perfectly distills the wild passion of Orwell's characters into a rage that's not only engaging, but also rather infectious. ... full review
