The Last Croissant

mike dowling · June 08, 2019 certified reviewer
The Last Croissant is a quick witted, funny, and charming show from The Attic Collective. A few years ago when I saw director Rosie Glen-Lambert's previous show "Dead Dogs Bone" I walked out and told people "She is the most inventive director I've seen in the entire of the 2015 Fringe Festival" After seeing The Last Croissant I can say that she and her theater company have continued to raise their game. This is a crazy farce set at a campground with funny characters and set pieces that keep the a... full review

Fish Out Of Whiskey:A Lawyer Who Just Wants You Off His Case

In the program for the show it states: "Wade is not an actor. He does not have a headshot, IMDB page or any kind of reel". It is because wade is NOT an actor that he can give the kind of gentle and real performance that he does. There is nothing fake about this. This is his life. With flaws and imperfections just like the rest of us. This show is also extremely funny and well written. Wade NAILS the prop and site gags on stage as he talks about shooting pheasants, skeleton racing (I know seriou... full review

Snack

Somehow Writer/Performer Megan Dolan does an entire solo show about her life, framed around food. This turns out to be an extremely creative way to tell her story. Dolan gives accounts of her life as a mother, daughter, and sibling and uses the snacks that were nearby at the time (Ice cream sundaes, Lorna Doone cookies etc) to complete the imagery for the audience. Dolan goes all out with her performance giving us different and weird characters to sell it. Dolan is a talented performer and write... full review

"33"

Charles Marina is an ever expanding bubble of personality. He is so engaging with the audience that I felt like I could talk to him, or get up and hug him during the show and it would have been just fine. (I didn't BTW) But him being engaging is important with this show. He talks about growing up in Lebanon and surviving not 1, not 2, but 3 DIFFERENT WARS. As an American who grew up in the suburbs I never felt so lucky. His performance uses humor and reverence to talk about all these things that ... full review

STUPID SONGS!!

There could be people out there who will say they didn't like Stupid Songs. Don't listen to those people. Those people are idiots. Listen to the mostly non idiot people like me and go see this show. If I were some sort of king I would have made them perform for me all day. Song after song after song. This show is next level musical comedy and I'm going to make sure I catch their next show around LA. This is one of the best shows at the Hollywood Fringe Festival this year. Loved it. ... full review

Cold Fusion

Some of the hardest acting to do is the "Two guys in a room" scene. The two main leads of Cold Fusion, David Harper and David Henne give great performances in a show that seems so simple, and only when its over do you realize how complex it was. Henne and Harper have great chemistry and play off each other in this very quick show which cuts back and forth between two different time periods in character Trevor Clendenin's life. Each time period adds another layer to the story which bleeds into the... full review

Annabella

I am an adult American male. I watch football, I like action movies. I don't normally seek out or watch much musical theater........Annabella made me cry. The watering in my eyes caught me by surprise during the first song and by the time the last song came around I just embraced my tears and realized I had just seen a special show. I was transfixed by the vocal prowess of the cast as they sang in happy, creepy, sober, and lustful tones. Creators Tony Gonzalez and Sam Johnides have made a beautif... full review

Kids...leave the room... I'm about to use some harsh language... gone? Ok. This show is FUCKING HYSTERICAL. From the moment the lights come up and the first character is revealed I was DYING laughing. It is a brilliant spoof of one-person shows and uses every cliche imaginable to poke fun at solo performers and dramatic theater in general. Writer and Star Jim Hanna's script is so tight and executed perfectly by the actors. Director Caitlin Rucker NAILS the little moments for each character ... full review

TIMEHEART

mike dowling · June 22, 2015 uncertified reviewer
This show is a very large amount of fun. A LARGE amount. A time traveling adventure... with aliens, evil overlords, sexy assassins, and its also a musical? Normally something like that would get bogged down with too much stuff, but in the case of Timeheart, everything works amazingly well. The entire cast goes all out to sell the concept and has so much fun doing it. The audience is transfixed as the cast sing and dance on stage all while traveling through time. Musical director Sam Johnides (w... full review

Dead Dog's Bone: A Birthday Play

mike dowling · June 20, 2015 uncertified reviewer
This show really elevates what you can do on a traditional stage. Director Rosie Glen-Lambert came up with brilliant ideas to make this production special. Somehow, on stage you'll see a glowing lake, a motorcycle made of...you'll have to see, giraffes, polar bears, and perfectly done lighting effect to show the passage of time. The entire cast and crew had to be on point with their movement and performances to make all this work, and you can tell they rehearsed over and over to make it happen. I... full review
