Thoughtful, witty, and charming: Jacquetta has it all! Truly engaging characters, the struggling underdogs of 1950's Las Vegas. I agree with Colin that the Harriet Tubman dance made the whole play. I can't wait to see the remounted production next year! ... full review

Pat Burtscher's Patopotamoose

A piece that lays somewhere between standup comedy and a philosophical debate, making for an original style of performance. Pat muses on babies, poop jokes, and how to save the world. Endearing and genuine. Hope to see him again! ... full review

Diary of a Sociopathic Freakazoid

Being a lady of my day, I had to see a show with a review that says "American Psycho for the Hipster Generation." (ID Magazine) You are in Dominic's apartment for the entirety of the play, watching him as he drinks, orders a prostitute with ardent specifications, and works on his novel, dressed in a Chinese Robe. As much as I didn't want to empathize with the lead, I found myself drawn into his intricate fabric of manipulation and lies. What is this "do-nothing" actually going to accomplish?... full review

First Love/Worst Love

First Love/Worst Love is a mood piece. An electric guitar played live onstage is backdrop to a series of vignettes drawn from Rebecca Cox's short stories. The ensemble shifts from piece to piece in movement & vocal styles that are at once completely honest and absolutely abstract. While the action may never drag you to the depths of heartbreak or to the heights of passion, Rebecca Cox's poetry filters through the air to your ears, leaving an impression of the characters in the author's ... full review

Porter's Macbeth "a parody"

Incredible! I love any show that begins the moment you walk in the door. Immediately engrossing and fun! It is bare bones theatremaking at its best: actors, their voices, and the text. The original a cappella music creates a rhythm and percussion in the piece, letting our contemporary ears really hear the Bard's words. At the end we hear two essential speeches from the play, and can still feel the weight of the tragedy and guilt. Bravo to Turner and Alive Theatre! I'd see it again!... full review

Four Clowns: Romeo & Juliet

fee doyle · June 17, 2011 certified reviewer
Four Clowns: Romeo and Juliet is a theatrical treat! The group's take on the classic tragedy makes for a non-stop night of laughter.  Alexis, Kevin, Raymond and Zach are truly gifted, light on their feet and moving effortlessly from scene to scene, engaging with the audience on every level.  The production is bare bones and simple: a red curtain, trunk, two ladders and a live pianist. Ridiculous, raunchy, and not skimping on the pathos, 4 Clowns brings to light the Bard's sense of humour that is ... full review
