Sam Shepard’s “Fool for Love” is arguably one of Shepard’s most famous plays, joining such classics as “True West”, “Curse of the Starving Class” and his Pulitzer Prize winning masterpiece, “Buried Child”. A relentless and powerful examination of love and the human subconscious, Fool for Love will play for five performances at The Actor’s Company beginning June 12th and will run on June 15th, 17th, 22nd and 23rd at 7:00 p.m. This production is being produced as part of the 2012 Hollywood Fringe Festival in Los Angeles.

The “fools” in the play are our two lovers, Eddie and May (played by Casey Campbell and Chelsea Reynolds). As the lights come up, we find them in a run down Mojave Desert motel, where May is hiding out. Eddie, a childhood friend and former flame, barges in and is trying to convince May to come back to him so that they may start the life they had always dreamed about. May refuses because she has started a new life and knows that if she goes back to Eddie their relationship will repeat the same destructive cycle it has before.

“Fool For Love” is brought to you by Vespertine Productions. Last year, Vespertine brought a critically-praised production of Harold Pinter’s “The Dumb Waiter” to the Fringe. They are also the creators behind the acclaimed original play “The History of the World (All of It)”, the original series “Crombie’s Zombies”, and the feature film “Hello, My Name is Charlie”. In more than 6 years of crafting both written and original material, Vespertine is proud to claim this production as some of their best work to date. The direction of Melody Rahbari (“Endgame”, “Hedda Gabler”, “A Raisin in the Sun”) puts us right in the center of this Mojave Desert Purgatory and explores the maddening complexities of the human psyche. The video/set design Matthew G. Hill (designer of Georgij Paro’s production of “Hamlet” and “The Marriage of Bette and Boo” at the National Theatre of Croatia) creates a unique and powerful atmosphere that blurs the line between reality and memory. Chicago transplant Casey Campbell appears as the relentless rodeo cowboy Eddie and making her Los Angeles stage debut is Chelsea Reynolds as the tough yet vulnerable May. The production also costars Jordan Randall as the sweet and naïve Martin and features Ed Beardsley as powerful and the unyielding Old Man.

Tickets for Fool for Love are $15 and can be purchased at www.hollywoodfringe.org/projects/908. The Actors Company is located on 916A Formosa Ave, Los Angeles, CA. Seating is limited so reservations are highly recommended.
