A true story of alcohol, love, and reconciliation will premiere with preview shows at the Hudson Theatre and features at Theatre of Note this June
May 15, 2012 (Los Angeles, CA) - Please extinguish all smoking materials, secure your wigs and toupees and prepare for take-off. Tonya Meeks’ bittersweet comedy, “Flying Standby” is set to launch at the Hollywood Fringe Festival beginning June 9th, 2012, with three preview showcases at the Hudson Theater. Showcase performances follow at the Theatre of Note beginning June 19th, 2012.
It takes a lot of power to establish yourself — or, your self — after growing up with an alcoholic mother, but somehow Tonya Meeks learned how to do it and is ready to share how. A one-woman powerhouse of a play, “Flying Standby” explores how a daughter’s determination to escape her alcoholic mother in turned carried her through a personally turbulent ride of addiction, lost love, and a final, desperate flight toward reconciliation.
Far from your A-typical “recovery story turned Hollywood,” “Flying Standby” is hilarious, poignant, and extremely engaging…even if your mother only drank water. There’s something to be said about a mother/daughter relationship, and after exploring Meeks’ journey, you might just call your mom afterwards and say “thanks.”
