Welcome to beautiful Teaneck, New Jersey. It’s a quaint, charming town with quaint, charming people. At least that’s what it seems like to newcomer Jack Greenberg. Jack is the new Jewish sheriff in town, and what he discovers is shocking: Teaneck is run with an iron fist by local lunatic Tad Theaterman (or is it Theater Man?), a crime lord who controls the town’s economic fate with his extensive collection of brothels, all staffed and supported by the townspeople themselves. To make matters worse, Deputy Flang got his boobs caught in the new wheat thrasher and died, leaving Jack with no back up!
But no matter how tough the odds Sheriff Jack is a man of principal, a man of honor, and he vows immediately to rid the beautiful New Jersey hamlet of sex trading riff raff. But dealin’ out justice ain’t easy. If Jack wants to save the town he’s going to have to defeat Tad’s dancing henchmen, the crooked Mayor Gerard Depardieu, and win his new love Hillary away from her alcoholic astronaut husband, also named Gerard Depardieu. Meanwhile, Theaterman tries to ignore Jack and rebuild his crumbling family empire.
In the end, the denouement if you will, “Sex AKA Wieners and Boobs” is a complicated play about simple things. It’s a story about love and life, dynasty and death. But mostly sex. And wieners and boobs. The cast includes Hannah Pilkes, Dave Reynolds, John Kubin, Michelle Gallione, Alex Oliver, Travis Coles, Lee H. Page, and directors Joe Flanders and Graham Bowlin. Between them, they have amassed many years of sketch comedy, improv, and stand up experience, and are all very passionate about a show that so highlights their comedic abilities.
Flanders and Bowlin are both members of the Precision? Theater Group, whose last comedy “Laboratories of Our Youth”, just closed in March at the Flight Theater. The show also featured the acting talents of Dave Reynolds and Travis Coles, who have returned for the fun on “Sex AKA Wieners and Boobs”.
If you’re looking for some absurd fun at this year’s Fringe Festival, it’s hard to beat a cold beverage and a little “Sex”.
