WORD PREMIER OF SOLO SHOW, “MAEVE’S POST-COLONIAL 12TH HOUSE PARTY” TO OPEN AT 2024 HOLLYWOOD FRINGE FESTIVAL
LOS ANGELES (May 1, 2024) — Award-winning actress Jennifer H Caldwell’s new solo show, “ Maeve’s Post-Colonial 12th House Party”, will have its’ world premier at the Hollywood Fringe Festival on June 8, 5:30 pm at the Henry Murray Stage at the Matrix Theatre, 7657 Melrose Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90046. The festival will feature the show three times, the other dates being June 14, 8:30 pm and June 22, 8:00 pm
The show runs 30 minutes and has a content warning as it contains descriptions and discussions of racism, genocide, sexually contracted disease, drug use and slavery.
Caldwell says, “Integrating the elements of post-colonialism and a discussion of the nature of the astrological 12th house into an entertaining show was a challenge. It’s big fun. People will learn something about astrology and how colonialists have tried to co-opt it. They’ll also have a good laugh and a lot to think about too.”
Caldwell met director, Keri Bruno while doing scene work in Brad Barnes’ signature course in Los Angeles, where he teaches Adrienne Weiss’ “Tools” method. This workshop focuses on giving actors and directors the opportunity to collaborate in creating the very best takes from scenes selected by the directors. “Jennifer is a brilliant actress. I was thrilled when she asked me to direct this piece. It was a challenge at first because I was finishing up a very intense shooting schedule on a television show, but it’s coming together beautifully. I’ve always wanted to direct a theater piece. I’m so excited to share it with audiences at the Hollywood Fringe.”
A long time but sometime student of astrology, Jennifer was inspired to write “Maeve’s Post-Colonial 12th House Party” after reading Alice Sparkly Kat’s groundbreaking book, “Post-Colonial Astrology” this past winter. Another source of inspiration, Scottish astrologist Alice Whitaker’s blog, “Writing from the 12th House” also played heavily in writing the script.
Caldwell draws on real life characters from history for the scene work, including her own character Maeve, from the legends of Irish mythology.
