Skinny Black Girl hits Hollywood Fringe Festival 2011

Los Angeles, CA – Skinny Black Girl Productions (SBG), a new entertainment company, presents Stephen Adly Guirgis’ dark comedy, Our Lady of 121st Street, for the Hollywood Fringe Festival 2011. SBG unites a stunning ensemble which brings to life the story of a group of friends who find redemption through the loss of their beloved Sister Rose Marie. Our Lady runs at ComedySportz LA, located at 733 Seward Street in Los Angeles, Sunday June 19th at 3pm and Tuesday June 21st at 7pm. All seats are $13 or $10 with a discount code at purchase. Our Lady of 121st Street tells the tale of twelve tragic characters that come together in the hopes of not only burying their childhood saint, but with her, the pain and grief life has dealt them. However, there is a glitch in the proceedings. The body of Sister Rose Marie has disappeared and as the gang awaits her appearance, we discover the truth behind their sometimes scary, yet insightful, and often hilarious charades.

Appearing in the production are Brandon Young as Flip, best known for his recurring role as reporter Mike Fletcher, on the final season of HBO’s award winning drama, The Wire. Also, Reynaldo Rivera as Edwin, who performed as the title role in NYC’s, Metropolitan Playhouse production of Guirgis’, The Last Days of Judas Iscariot. And Erica Pitts, as Norca, whose credits include, Sunshine for A Midnight Weary, which received a nomination for the NAACP’s coveted Theatre Award.

Skinny Black Girl Productions founder Alia Chapman is a native of Washington, DC and has worked as a professional in the theatre industry for the past six years. Her credits include The Taking of Miss Janie at The Federal Theatre, NYC which was nominated for an AUDELCO award; WIT at Ira Aldridge Theatre, and Denial at Metropolitan Playhouse. She made her directorial debut with Colours Performing Arts Troupe, while still attending high school, advancing from pupil to instructor. Her training includes the Shakespeare Theatre Company and the British American Drama Academy. She currently works to expand her production company to include television and film ventures. Ms. Chapman holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting from Howard University.

Our Lady of 121st Street plays as a visiting production at ComedySportzLA as a part of the Hollywood Fringe Festival. Show dates and times include June 19th at 3pm and June 21st at 7pm.
