A HORSE PRESS RELEASE

A Horse

view project

What is A Horse? Webster’s dictionary defines it as a “large, solid-hoofed herbivorous ungulate.” But for four friends in Los Angeles, A Horse is a fast-paced, irreverent improv show that abuses the language of Shakespeare and attacks his tropes.

But isn’t Shakespeare dead? Yes, if he ever existed. Launching off the suggestion of a play that ‘hath not yet been scribed’ (see what we didst there?) they invoke the Bard’s spirit in a glorious waste of intelligence.

Wait a minute, this already sounds pretentious. This isn’t just another show about kings and queens and serfs. We keep the story in modern times. The only queens you’re going to see are the fabulous fairies of Hollywood Blvd. And serfs? Perhaps an underling or two that take up employment at Ye King of Burgers. Joke line here.

OK, you’ve sold me, but isn’t improv bad for you? No.

So who is A Horse? Webster’s dictionary… Oh, wait, we already did that joke. A Horse is comprised of four people: Amanda Barnes, Julian Clark, Jimmy Mac and Rollin Perry. Graduates of iO West, these four have collectively written and performed for UCB, Second City, iO West, Groundlings and the Westside Comedy Theatre.

Who reins this ‘Horse’ in? Originally, we were coached by Brian Gallivan, the infamous Sassy Gay Friend, but he suddenly became famous and stuff (who does he think he is, that stupid bitch? He’s a stupid bitch!) so we sought the great Jaime Moyer, a Second City cherubim of Detroit and actress in Lifetime’s “Prayers for Bobby” and the viral hit “Fancy Cats.”

All right, this sounds sexy. It is.

When’s your next show? A Horse performs regularly at iO West and Second City, but we have two huge shows at The Hollywood Fringe Festival on June 24th at 6pm and June 25th at 9pm. Performance location is The Artworks Theatre and Studios at 6569 Santa Monica Blvd., Los Angeles.

But I’m poor! The show is free. And hark: there’s ye olde pub a few paces away, where you can (enjoy) Pabst, winner of the finest blue ribbon.
