Joy Nash Takes on Los Angeles’ Premiere New Play Festival with My Mobster starting June 19 at the Lounge Theatre

Known for her online video series (Fat Rant) that has garnered millions of views, actress and activist Joy Nash is bringing her solo talents to the stage for the Hollywood Fringe Festival with her bioplay, My Mobster, at the Lounge Theatre starting June 19. My Mobster, which is making its premiere at the HFF, is helmed by veteran Los Angeles theater director Louise Hung.

Awkwardly brave and oddly joyful, My Mobster is the heartbreakingly true story of the unlikely romance that blossoms between a sheltered young woman and a criminal from France. Vacationing in Italy, Joy meets a charming and increasingly mysterious stranger who wines and dines her, gives her her first kiss, and then flies her to Paris where things get really bizarre. Toss in a hyper-religious, mildly racist mother, Joy’s complete inability to speak French, George Bush’s Shock and Awe campaign, the love-hate relationship Joy has with her intact virginity and a little bit of voodoo.

“Joy is an unconventional everywoman”, says director Louise Hung, “we easily laugh, cry and gasp with her. She honors both the underdog and the siren.”

No stranger to the stage, Joy Nash holds two degrees from the University of Southern California in sociolinguistics and theater and has most recently starred in shows for the Geffen Playhouse, REDCAT Theatre and 24th Street Theatre. Her online notoriety has earned her a Webby Honoree title as well as featured media attention from various outlets from the New York Times to CNN.
