1.5 KOREAN IS A SERIES OF COMEDIC SKETCHES ON WHAT IT’S LIKE BEING HALF-KOREAN AND FULL KOREAN AMERICAN IN TODAY’S WORLD.

Los Angeles, CA (August 18, 2021) – Recipients of a 2021 Hollywood Fringe Scholarship, Arthur Stanley Chong and Pamela Paek present a series of comedic sketches around being Korean- and Korean-Black-American and the ways we codeswitch, tamp down, or amp up our Koreanness and who we are. From how to cope/deal with good-intentioned people suffering from ignorance to knowing what honors our identities and heritage without mocking and degrading for the easy laugh, we tackle it all with honesty, ferocity, and fun.

Developed for the 2020 short fringe festival Frontera Fest in Austin, TX, followed by a 5-minute short film featured at the 2020 Asian American Film Labs’ 72-hour Shootout, 1.5 Korean has grown from shorts to a full hour for the 2021 Hollywood Fringe. Stanley Chong and Paek are able to expand sketches to include their musings on K Pop, K Drama, and K Beauty.

Ticket holders will need to wear a mask and present proof of vaccination against COVID-19 or a negative COVID-19 test (within 72 hours) along with a government-issued photo ID in order to attend any in-person Hollywood Fringe event. Tickets are priced at $12 USD for both in-person and for live-streamed performances. Available online at https://www.hollywoodfringe.org/projects/7099
