THE OLDEST PERFORMER ON THE FRINGE?

How To Survive A Zombie Apocalypse

view project

This June After Dark Entertainment will be winging their way across the Atlantic Ocean to deliver their award winning comedy seminar ‘How To Survive A Zombie Apocalypse’ at Theatre Asylum as part of the Hollywood Fringe 2011 and having received accolades aplenty at home in the UK, they are now wondering if they’ve managed to attain a very special distinction in Los Angeles – and it’s not any kind of award or prize they’re after – oh no – they may possibly have the oldest performer at the festival this year in their troupe.
‘It’s difficult to find out if we’ve managed to garner this very special eminence,’ says Ben Muir who plays Dr Dale, the seminar leader, ‘as Fringe Central doesn’t take any information on the ages of the performers in participating companies but with David being a youthful 69 years of age we think we’re in with a pretty good chance of him holding onto the moniker of ‘Grand Old Master of the Fringe 2011’. Although I’m sure he wouldn’t be pleased with the word ‘Old’ being in his honorary title!’
And what of David? Well, he plays craggy survival expert Donald Straite in the multi starred comedy show and hasn’t looked back since joining the cast 3 years ago.
‘When Ben asked me to be involved with HTSAZA I jumped at the chance because of the interactive and improvisational nature of the show, as that’s what I love about performance (David travels to the US two or three times a year to take part in Improv festivals in Chicago, Seattle and across the country) and we never knew when we started what a response we’d have! We’ve been all over the UK and now we’re touring abroad – and one of the things people always ask us is how did we end up getting together in the first place. We’re four very diverse people who obviously didn’t meet up by all attending the same drama school, but that’s what really works with the show. The dynamic, the difference and the fact that we’re all really good friends who work so well together – and as for my age. I’m probably the most active member out of all of them! Ben, Jess and Lee (the rest of the cast!) don’t treat me any different in a show to if I was 18 years old and I wouldn’t want them too. I’ve been hung upside down, lifted in the air and even ended up in the middle of an Irish Jig all for the sake of zombie survival… and to think, I didn’t know anything about the undead three years ago and now I’m probably the most savvy over 65 year old in the world when it comes to a zombie apocalypse.’
