“PAINT” – When Robert Rauschenberg and Jasper Johns fell in love, they created their most critically valuable output of art. This award-winning play imagines their rivalry and friendship after their break-up in 1961. It is a magical story about fame, jealousy, art and betrayal. But above all else, it is a Love Story.

The provocative, award-winning new play, “PAINT” was first performed in a world premiere at the Semel Theater at Emerson College in Boston, MA shortly after winning the school’s highest artistic honor, “Rod Parker Playwriting Fellowship" last winter (2010) for scribe Dan DeNicola. Since then, it has had a workshop production at the Lineage Performing Arts Center in Pasadena, CA. “PAINT” is an edgy, imaginative take on the tumultuous relationship between two of the most significant artists of the 20th Century. It is a work of fiction, and not authorized by Johns and the Rauschenberg estate.

Blue Rose Theater – The “blue rose” is a symbol of great mystery—a dream forever out of reach. An elusive flower, it does not occur in nature. It is the Holy Grail of the rose world, representing not only the unattainable, but the hope for a miracle to occur.

Founded in 2010 by a collective of Emerson College alumni, Blue Rose Theater embraces challenging original work that dramatizes the mysterious, and celebrates the casual miracle of live theatrical performance. “PAINT” will be the first Blue Rose production in participation with Hollywood Fringe.

AUDIENCE ADVISORY: This play contains mature language and themes, and is intended for viewers 13 and up.
