THE TROUBLE WITH WORDS

Music and Lyrics by Gregory Nabours
Directed by Patrick Pearson

Coeurage Theatre Company is proud to present the World Premiere of Gregory Nabours’ The Trouble with Words, an exciting new song cycle for 3 men and 3 women that explores the relationships people have with words as well as with each other.
Nabours’ sharp wit and distinct style are displayed with songs that range from devastating to laugh-out-loud funny. The Trouble with Words is premiering this summer as part of the Festival of New American Musicals and the Hollywood Fringe Festival.

Gregory Nabours has been performing both on and off the stage for the past decade. Musical direction credits include The Women of Brewster Place (2010 Ovation Winner), Having It All (2011 Ovation Nominee), [title of show] (Los Angeles Premiere- Celebration Theatre), A New Brain (El Portal Forum), Into the Woods, Assassins, The Full Monty, Rent, The Last Five Years, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, and 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. Composer credits include Sequins! – The Show Choir Musical, SteamTowne, and The Trouble With Words. His music has been performed in venues across the nation, and he has accompanied many of Broadway’s brightest stars. His band, The Anix, has toured both nationally and internationally. Gregory is the Musical Director for Ryan Black’s 88’s Cabaret and Ryan O’Connor Eats His Feelings, and is the proud Resident Composer for Coeurage Theatre Company, where he appeared as Frank ‘N Furter in last year’s hit production of Rocky Horror Show.

Patrick Pearson is an award-winning director whose work has taken him to both coasts of the United States as well as to Wales. His production of William Finn’s autobiographical musical A New Brain was remounted twice over a two year period, the second time at the Festival of New American Musicals (El Portal Forum) where it was performed for the author. His production of Altar Boyz at the Celebration Theatre in West Hollywood was the recipient of two LA Weekly Awards (Best Ensemble and Choreography), and a nomination for Best Musical. Other directing credits include The Diviners (Kennedy Center), Under Milk Wood (Dylan Thomas Boathouse, Laugharne, Wales), Songs from an Unmade Bed (Celebration Theatre), Equus (Young Theatre), Not About Nightingales (Walton Arts Center), Violet, Dead Man Walking, Seussical, Dog Sees God, As It Is In Heaven, A Piece of My Heart, Falling Dreams and Marisol among others. Patrick served as the Assistant Director on Duncan Sheik’s new musical Whisper House at the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego, where he also directed As You Like It as part of their Summer Shakespeare Intensive Program. He will be returning to the Old Globe this summer to direct The Merry Wives of Windsor for the same program. Patrick has his MFA in Directing from California State University, Fullerton and BFA in Musical Theatre from San Houston State University. Member SDC.

Mission Statement: Coeurage Theatre Company exists to make impassioned theatre accessible for all audiences through pay-what-you-want admission and fresh, challenging productions.

Many companies have occasional Pay What You Can performances to appeal to audience members who cannot afford a full-priced ticket. By making ticketing for all of our productions entirely Pay What You Want, we are giving all of our patrons an equal opportunity to see theatre that’s affordable. While Pay What You Can references one’s ability to pay (can), Pay What You Want appeals to one’s desires (want). Each audience member pays a ticket price that is fair to them.
