LOS ANGELES – Joy Perkins, a 40-year old disgruntled underachiever, has resigned herself to a life of regret and unfulfilled potential. But when world famous guru, Niev Lapel, comes to town, Joy is determined to take one final stab at getting what she deserves and become a guru herself. Laden with adult language and situations, catchy songs, and four or five murders, Accidental Joy: A New Musical, is a visionary, third-eye opening dark comedy that speaks to the central role we play in forging our own destinies.

Accidental Joy: A New Musical bloomed out of a fateful meeting between writer, Marcus Terrell Smith, and composer, Robbie McDonald, one night outside of an empty Los Angeles bar. After their sold-out premiere in April 2018, producer, Linda Joe, joined the dynamic team, and since then, the trio has worked tirelessly to instill self-confidence and belief in one’s self through this wonderful piece of theater. In fact, in only a few months time, this musical has enjoyed the title of Official Selection of the 2018 New York Musical Festival, a glowing endorsement from the prestigious La Jolla Playhouse, and a sold-out staged reading event at the Belasco Theater in Downtown Los Angeles. The rest is Broadway history.

Deviating from the standard theater development process, Accidental Joy is inviting audiences to take part in a unique and entertaining workshop production experience using minimal sets and costumes at The Montalbán Theater in Hollywood (1615 Vine St. Los Angeles, 90028) on Saturday, June 29, 2019, with doors open at 7pm and performance beginning at 8pm. While these presentations of new shows are usually done for small focus groups, Accidental Joy is changing the trend in LA fashion and inviting one-thousand theater goers to have direct involvement in the development of this awesome show.

Performers in this incredible work include such top notch actors as Tyren Perry (Bustin’ Loose, Family Matters), talented orchestrator/arranger, Anthony Sabatino, along with a stellar band. Come one, come all, and be enlightened!
