“STRAIGHT WHITE MEN #TRYING TO WOKE” – a series of short comedies by Chris Valenti – premieres at the 2019 Hollywood Fringe Festival at the 2nd Stage Theater in Hollywood

STRAIGHT WHITE MEN #TRYING TO WOKE is an evening of five short comedies exploring the middle age white male struggle to fit in during these confusing times.

Our society has transformed significantly over the past two or three years. It’s almost as if an event occurred during 2016 that shook up a lot of people. And it’s as if this culturally apocalyptic event was led by a threatening, over-the-top caricature of a straight white man. And it’s as if this threatening, over-the-top caricature of a straight white man encouraged division and fighting within the society because he is a complete asshole.

This theoretical event then opened floodgates of understandable resentment within our society due to decades, or even centuries, of unfair treatment towards segments of the population. With the society divided so distinctly by the over-the-top, caricature of a straight white man, it was easy to see that straight white men in general have had it relatively easy over the past decades, or even centuries. Some understandable and needed cultural movements have worked to make society a better place for all people. But sometimes this needed better society can make life a little awkward for average, ordinary, non-complete asshole, straight white men.

The five short comedies – and their topics – are:

FANDOM – navigating politics
POLITE RACISM – analyzing ethnicity
SUICIDE PACT – tolerating millennials
BRITTLE TROMBONE – contemplating economics
FANTASY FOOTBALL – grasping identity

STRAIGHT WHITE MEN #TRYING TO WOKE has a runtime of about 50 minutes.
