Matt Ritchey, Director and Writer of “ANGEL’S FLIGHT ” (2016 Hollywood Fringe Best Cabaret/Variety Winner, “Top of the Fringe” nominee, “Lumpy-Cramp Spirit of the Fringe, Never In The Box” nominee, “Rogue Shakespeare Award for Artistic Excellence ‘Directing Excellence’” nominee), and Director of “MARTHA WASHINGTON KILLED A REDCOAT” (2017 Hollywood Fringe Best Comedy and Short + Sweet Award Nominee), and “AMERICAN CONSPIRACY” (2018 “Best Director” Honor by TheTVolution), presents his most recent comedy, “BLACKBOXING” at the 2019 Hollywood Fringe. The show is the first Ritchey has written since 2016 and his first ever performance at the Fringe Festival.

“BLACKBOXING,” about a neophyte actor teching his first one-man show, was based on a conversation Ritchey had with Jim Niedzialkowski at the 2018 Fringe. Niedzialkowski stage manages The Dorie Theater for the festival and Ritchey made a joke about doing a show together where an actor annoys his stage manager so much that he prompts revenge on him during the performance.

But the purpose for the show came from Ritchey’s real life. A perfectionist who had been feeling frustrated about lack of forward movement in his life and career, he took Matthew Quinn’s “How To Produce A Fringe Show” Workshop and had a “lightning bolt moment” about doing the one-man show. In a leap of faith, Ritchey booked the space in November with no script and only a basic idea of the plot. Months later, “BLACKBOXING” is ready for its Premiere.
