HOLLYWOOD, California – Dirtie Blonde Productions presents the West Coast premier of Girl Band in the Men’s Room, a play by Robert A. Ford, as part of the 2nd Annual Hollywood Fringe Festival this June. Set in a men’s bathroom in 1994, GBMR follows four female musicians on the eve of their big break. A nostalgic yet timely examination of the grunge era, Girl Band examines feminism, the stakes we create in pursuit of our dreams, and the tenuous relationship upon which all bands are built.
A preview performance will be held June 11th at 9:30 pm at Fringe Central. Performances will continue throughout the duration of the Fringe Festival on June 17, 18, 22, 24 and 25th at The Annex at Fringe Central. Tickets are $15 for General Admission, $10 for Fringe Participants, and are available for purchase on the Hollywood Fringe website. Fringe Central is located at ArtWorks Theatre, 6567 Santa Monica Blvd. on Theatre Row in Hollywood.
A percentage of ticket and merchandise sales will be donated to Silverlake Conservatory of Music, a non-profit organization which provides low and no-cost music education to youths in LA. Directed by Michael Kortlander, the cast includes www.bitter-lemons.com scribe Kat Primeau, Katherine Skelton, Lisa Summerscales, and Erin Boyes. Playwright Robert A. Ford is Artistic Director of TheatreSquared in Fayettville, Arkansas, and has been a “Hidden Gem” pick on NPR’s Morning Edition. In addition to performance of the play, Girl Band has recorded an original single, “Meet Me in the Men’s Room” at historic EastWest Studios in Hollywood, and will be releasing a music video early June.
