view project

For Immediate Release: 2018/04/30

Pretend Theatre is proud to announce their inaugural production of Shakespeare’s Henry V! Performing at the recently renovated Thymele Arts, every ticket to the show includes a free beer or glass of wine. The show runs as part of the 2018 Hollywood Fringe Festival with performances on May 31 and June 8, 9, 15, 16, 21, and 23.

Pretend Theatre plans to bring modern day audiences a similar experience to that which the ‘groundlings’ had in Elizabethan England. By performing in a bar, in front of a drinking audience, director Chris Chapman is hoping to make Shakespeare fun again. “Shakespeare’s audience was loud, drunk, and stood just a few feet from the actors,” Chapman said, “I hope by putting a modern audience right next to the action, they get swept up in the fervor of Henry and his soldiers as well.”

Henry V is being done as part of the 2018 Hollywood Fringe Festival, in the newly renovated Thymele Arts complex. Thymele will be a new hub for the Fringe Festival. Patrons of the festival will gather in the common room of Thymele after shows to discuss what they have seen, as well as to connect with friends and other artists. With several different venues for shows in its own walls, and with the surrounding venues also gathering their, Thymele will become a “Fringe Central East” where art will flourish and grow.

Henry V opens on May 31, with additional performances on June 8, 9, 15, 16, 21, and 23. Every ticket includes a free beer or glass of wine. Tickets go on sale May 1. For tickets and more information visit www.PretendTheatre.com or www.hollywoodfringe.org/5061
