The Rise and Fall of Dracula

view project

A bold, immersive retelling that infuses contemporary dance, newly composed music and original script with a variety of vampire lore.

June 3rd- June 24th
Stephanie Feury Studio
5636 Melrose Ave. Hollywood, CA

LOS ANGELES, May 1, 2017— Although this production is adapted from smatterings of Bram Stoker’s tale, Le Fanu’s Carmilla, re-imagined myths and other dark folklore, The Rise and Fall of Dracula gives us a completely fresh story from a female perspective.

This unique piece takes us back to the ancient roots of Dracula, slowly weaving the legend of the formidable, enigmatic spirit we have become so intrigued by. Themes of Power, Belief and Companionship run throughout the production with powerfully haunting contemporary classical compositions and primal yet beautiful choreography. We follow familiar and not-so-familiar characters promenade-style throughout the space allowing ourselves to live within the world created by Melissa Ortiz (Writer/ Director), Cassandra Ambe (Choreographer/ Performer) and David Kayser (Composer). We witness Dracula’s transformation to vampire and become the reason for her rise to power over the centuries.

“A brief and unexpected peek into her past, showing us the inner-workings of her spirit and who she was justifies the legend she becomes,” says Cassandra Ambe. “She was born out of bloodshed and that extreme condition shapes her existence as a vampire.”

“We are striving to make an impact at the Hollywood Fringe Festival and in the greater theatre community by offering a unique take on a classic story with a production that has an emphasis on ethnic diversity and gender equality, " states Cadame Company. " We are proud to be working with a female writer, director, choreographer and a diverse cast.”
