HOLLYWOOD PRODUCER SY ROSEN JOINS THE HOLLYWOOD FRINGE FESTIVAL

Sy Rosen, veteran writer and producer, (The Bob Newhart Show, Rhoda, Taxi, MASH, Maude, Northern Exposure, Sanford, The Wonder Years, Frasier, Gimme a Break, The Jeffersons, The Wonder Years, and Sister/Sister) produced, wrote and is starring in a new project, “Robert De Niro Is Older Than Me” for the 2017 Hollywood Fringe Festival. Rosen describes his play as, “a series of stories about the joys and horrors of getting older in Hollywood where the young would eat the old if they weren’t afraid of gaining weight.” The stories cover everything from being out of work and lying about it, to rekindling his marriage, to cryogenics, to getting his first senior discount. Broadway World called it “laugh out loud funny and relatable.” However it’s Rosen’s poignant relationship with his mother and her gallant fight against Alzheimer’s disease that ties the whole piece together.

The show also stars Deborah Geffner, of “All That Jazz" fame, and Robert Romanus, star of “Fast Times at Ridgemont High.” They each play about fifteen different roles that bring the stories to life, as well as singing in the short breaks between stories.

Geffner, an award winning director, helped Rosen translate his stories to the stage. She says, “Directing Sy has not only been a window into the very funny and twisted mind of a master of the writer’s room, but also an education in the history of the Hollywood sitcom.”

“Robert De Niro Is Older Than Me” plays at the Hudson Guild Theatre, 6539 Santa Monica Boulevard for five shows only in June.
