FAMILY VALUES AND THE HORROR OF THE UNKNOWN
Smudge
For Immediate Release, Los Angeles, CA—May 30th, 2015- Simple Dog
Productions is happy to bring their production of Smudge to the
Hollywood Fringe Festival. Written by Rachel Axler (Emmy Award
winning staff writer of The Daily Show and currently writing for
NBC’s Parks and Recreation) and directed by Los Angeles based
director/producer Rebecca Eisenberg ( The Pitchfork Disney,
The Homosexuals, Wolves) the play revolves around a young married
couple awaiting the birth of their first child, having never imagined
the challenges would become even greater than either of them had ever
anticipated. Smudge is “. . . pitch black funny” (Variety) and “ a
play that sticks with you, both for its laughs and its message”
(CURTAINUP), while at the same time it, “. . . taps into a primal
fear — giving birth to a monster and then calmly considers it from
all angles” (The New York Times). Smudge deals with questions of
family, of ‘being’, and unconditional love, where human emotions are
stretched outside their comfort zone providing the basis for an all
too modern “horror story”. SDP’s production features Chicago natives
Whitney Wellner ( CSI, Save the Last Dance, 7 Days in November), and
Jesse G. Louis (Best of Craigslist Live, Rogue Artists Ensemble’s
Song of Bilitis, west coast premiere of Dirty) as well as newly
transplanted NYC actor Brian Bickerstaff (Habit, Church, Songs of the
Dragons Flying to Heaven, Bad Boy Nietzsche) who met while
participating in Chicago theater’s Steppenwolf West class earlier
this year. The production will run for a limited engagement of 12
performances at The Hudson Theater, 6539 Santa Monica Blvd, Los
Angeles, 90038 – the only theatre participating in The Fringe that
has a parking lot! Individual tickets are $20 and can be purchased
online at smudge4fringe.com. We have matinee and evening shows
running from June 12 through June 28. There is special PRESS PREVIEW
PERFORMANCE Friday the 6th at 8 p.m. Comped tickets will be given to
all press. Please visit hollywoodfringe.com and send us a message on
