Veteran tanker offers a harrowing and hysterical look at life in the military and beyond as he struggles with the effects of being bi-polar and dealing with PTSD.

LOS ANGELES – Greg David Jones has faced numerous enemies over the course of his life, many of them coming after his (almost) four years serving as a tank driver for the U.S. Army during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. As tough as life in the military was, facing off against his bi-polar disease, the effects of PTSD and the emotions after a failed suicide attempt proved much harder.

“I’ve dealt with a lot in my life,” Jones said. “But I realize that with a lot of these things, looking back and looking at where I am now, I’ve been very lucky.”

Lucky is a solo show from Jones in which he shares stories from joining the Army, gaining and losing friends, coming to Hollywood, discovering his bi-polar, and surviving his own suicide attempt. Throughout the show, Greg finds a way to touch upon difficult subjects with both sincerity and humor, while leaving space for the audience to feel the emotional impact through a unique Q&A session.

“I approach the show with complete honesty,” Jones said. “I don’t shy away from any of the dark parts…but I’m also a comedian so there is a lot of humor in the show. There has to be those moments to lighten it up.”

A successful actor, Jones has worked in numerous TV shows, commercials and Web videos for sites like “Funny or Die.” He’s also performed with Upright Citizens Brigade. His director Justin Donaldson is also an accomplished writer and actor with experience in all entertainment arenas.

Lucky actually debuted at Hollywood Fringe last year with a different title—How I Got Here. Jones and his creative team re-vamped the show for this year, adding some stories and a section at the end of the show that gives patrons an opportunity to ask some questions, triggering even more stories and the brutal honesty Jones brings to his life’s tale.

“In that sense, it makes the show different every night,” Jones said. “I wanted to not only talk about my journey with this show, but also let others help me take a look and satisfy their curiosity. Whether it’s life in the military, coping with a disease or how to recover after a suicide attempt, there are questions that people have and I wanted this show to give them that platform so we could explore together.”
