New Play Explores the Dark Side of Alternative Energy

Cold Fusion, a new play at this year’s Hollywood Fringe Festival, looks at what happens when someone discovers an unlimited source of clean, renewable energy.

All Trevor has to do is answer a few questions. All the patent clerk has to do is sign a piece of paper. But when the answers aren’t forthcoming, neither is the pen. As the investigation continues, it becomes obvious they both have something to hide.

“When I wrote this play,” says playwright Brandon Smith, “the economy was tanking, energy was expensive, and it felt like people who were not part of the 1% were doomed. I wondered, ‘What would happen if power was limitless, and all people had access to it?’”

The two lead actors, David Henne (The Lying Game) and David Harper (creator of the award-winning film, Health & Disorder) are joined by supporting actors Donald Gipson (The Ghost Speaks) and Jacqueline Claire (Friday Night Lights) and directed by director Ingrid Moss.

Moss came on board immediately after reading the script. “I read through it and knew right away that I wanted to be involved in this project. The science and technology and strong story attracted me to it and I want to tell it. I liked the challenge of directing this for the stage and making it compelling to the audience using simple staging, strong, genuine acting and a super cool cold fusion device.”

The play will be performed at the Flight Theater at The Complex, 6472 Santa Monica Blvd., Los Angeles, CA. The preview performance (open to the public) is Sunday, June 7 at 2:00PM. Remaining performances are Saturday, June 13 at 7:00PM; Sunday, June 21 at 5:00PM; and Saturday, June 27 at 9:00PM.

Tickets go on sale May 1st. Tickets for the first performance are “Pay What You Can,” and remaining performances are $10,00. Discount code PONS will reduce that price by 30% to $7.00.
