Curious Beast Theatre Co. bursts on to the Los Angeles theatre scene with the Hollywood Fringe Festival premiere of Zayd Dohrn’s “Reborning” this June. In this fascinating dark comedy, the practice of using latex as an art form is portrayed in all of its bizarre glory. “Reborning” opens at McCadden Place Theater on Saturday, June 14 at 9:15 p.m. Performances continue Saturday, June 21 and Saturday, June 28 at 9:15 p.m. (Preview Sunday, June 8 at 4:15 p.m.)
Directed by CBTco’s Jamie Boalbey and Assistant Directed by Lyle Friederichs, the cast features Mary Carrig, the owner of Inside Shakespeare, LLC and Artistic Director of Conejo Valley Shakespeare Society’s Youth Shakespeare Company playing the role of Emily, Spark O’Connell, who attended the Moscow Art Theatre School in Russia playing the role of Daizy and Jamie Boalbey, who received her bachelor’s degree in theatre from Ball State University playing the role of Kelly. The scenic design is by Lyle Friederichs.
“Reborning” is a dark comedy about life-like baby dolls, latex and phalluses. Kelly, an orphan doll maker and Daizy, a hippy art school dropout, now use their skills to fill the void of those in need. A demanding client may be the key to Kelly’s past. As she tries to unravel the mystery she discovers the path to her own reborning. “Reborning” was originally produced in New York at the Summer Play Festival.
CBTco is teaming up with Wendy’s Babies Nursery who will provide the production with actual reborn babies from one of the most talented women in the reborning industry. Based out of Lincoln Linconshire, England, owner Wendy Graham is the first professional reborn artist to be accepted into the Fine Arts Trade Guild and has created the most realistic “reborns” for people all over the world.
