Seven Seductions of Taylor Swift
Los Angeles, California – June 11, 2014 – Acclaimed LA stage actor, Thaddeus Shafer, plays seven of Taylor Swift’s famous guys in a satirical tale of love, innocence, power and douchebags. Directed by Amin El Gamal, Seven Seductions of Taylor Swift has its world premiere at the Hollywood Fringe Festival at midnight on Saturday, June 14, 2014 at the Cupcake Theatre in Hollywood.

Seven emerging female playwrights wildly speculate on the very personal private moments of Taylor Swift’s romantic history, writing scenes from the perspective of Joe Jonas (Caitlin Bower), Taylor Lautner (Nadia Vazquez), John Mayer (Joanna Horowitz), Cory Monteith (Lily Blau), Jake Gyllenhaal (Joanna Bateman), Conor Kennedy (Kit Steinkellner), and Harry Styles (Kari Lee). Before each scene, Jonny Taylor’s brilliant projections cleverly incorporate real footage to provide context.

While some might ask, “why should anyone care about Taylor Swift’s relationships?” these seven playwrights believe that Taylor Swift is a part of a contemporary mythology (like Henry VIII or Marilyn Monroe were in their times), which is rich with themes of identity, celebrity, whiteness, maleness, blondeness and the inherent self-exploitation of social media in 21st century. Ultimately, though, this play is the story about a young woman growing up, coming into her own, and finding her own voice. Taylor is, dramaturgically speaking, the hero of her Seven Seductions, even though she is never onstage.

This play began, as attempt to solve a problem. Before there was even a show, our actor, Thaddeus Shafer, became obsessed with these seven guys. Insisting that he had to ‘tell their story,’ Shafer began to act as these seven guys in his every day life; at home, on the street — anywhere he went, so did Harry, or Joe, or John. Pushed to the brink, Shafer’s fiancé, playwright Kari Lee, enlisted the help of six other playwrights to help get this obsession out of her life and into a rehearsal room. The real life drama behind the making of this play can be seen on youtube, in the webseries ‘Tad & Kari.’
Produced with the generous help of indiegogo supporters, Seven Seductions of Taylor Swift has also been accepted into the New York International Fringe Festival and will make its New York premiere in August.
