Blackbird Dance Co. is expanding its reach and its range with its new Hollywood Fringe Festival show, 24Blackbirds.

The 24Blackbirds debuting June 21, 2014 at the Hollywood Fringe Festival (the largest celebration of the performing arts in Los Angeles.) 24Blackbirds features new and innovative work; a multi-cultural score and afro-modern jazz dance. The piece tells the story of a mother-bird to a unique and colorful family of birds and about their coming-of-age story as they decide to leave her and find their passions, hopes, and dreams away from their nest and then come face to face with the trials and joys of doing so.

Hollywood, CA– Blackbird Dance Co. announces its development of a thriving live music and dance show in the Hollywood Fringe Festival. Known for its cultural and artistic education with dance and music, the mission of Blackbird Dance Company (BDCo) is growing with its new non-profit status. After three years in the Hollywood community its mission has grown into promoting accessibility of the arts, celebrating cultural diversity through educational opportunities and providing a creative space for the community with opportunities for interactive live music & dance performances.

BDCo launched in 2005, in Los Angeles, CA, under the brilliant direction of Alexandra Blackbird de Ochoa. After almost two decades of touring as a performer: incl: Off-Broadway musicals, films/commercials, Guest-Artist residencies, dance theater companies, non-profit artistic boards and studio ownerships throughout the US and Canada, she settled in LA to create more connections in the industry and become a college professor while raising her two children as a single mom.

Currently, BDCo has its home, dance studio and performance space, located at: 305 N. Fairfax Ave. Los Angeles, CA 90036 where the community can find instruction through private or group movement classes for any level and style. At the same time this space provides community groups and productions a home to cast, create, rehearse and film, spanning the industries of music, theater, dance, and fashion.

“Getting the community to continue to take part in the experience of live music and dance is the aim” says Blackbird of her latest artistic creation, 24Blackbirds. This current show 24Blackbirds is a prime example of bringing the community together to create a provocatively engaging evening out in Hollywood. “It’s a great show that pulls out all the stops and is worthy of any world class stage,” continues Blackbird. “Amongst the members of the cast, it includes singers, dancers and musicians with many surprises!”

The talented members of the 24Blackbirds are available for hire both as an ensemble and as individual talents.
