*Cooking up a New Dish for the 2014 Hollywood Fringe Festival:

THE LAST TEMPTATION OF PAULA DEEN*

Following the success of “The Miss Julie Dream Project” at the Fringe in 2013, this year’s world premiere collaborative project was created by ten Fell Swoop writers. The result is an unexpected, satiric romp through the life of America’s favorite restaurateur, entrepreneur and good ol’ southern gal. Directed by Katie Chidester, “The Last Temptation of Paula Deen” plays June 6 – 29 at the Lounge Theatre as part of the 2014 Hollywood Fringe Festival.

Mixing equal parts racism with hospitality, personality and tearful public apologies, “The Last Temptation of Paula Deen” offers up a rich stew of playful satire and provocative consideration of ambition in an age of over-sharing and media-saturation. Come set a spell and learn a few tips on keeping your family close and your fan base closer. Expect all the fixins and none of the portion control.

The recipe for “The Last Temptation of Paula Dean” was developed by Fell Swoop Playwrights Co-Founder Kyle T. Wilson, working with fellow playwrights Kayla Cagan, Jeremy Frazier, Samm Hill, J. Holtham, Lisa Kenner, Michelle Meyers, Emily Brauer Rogers, Kimberly Shelby-Szyszko and Jennie Webb.
“The Last Temptation of Paula Deen” features performers Edward Alvarado, Korama Danquah, Tiffanee Hall, Sasha Harris, Tamika Katon-Donegal and Wayne Alon Scott.

Alvarado and Harris return to the stage with Fell Swoop after performing in “The Miss Julie Dream Project.” Katie Chidester directed last year’s hit, which enjoyed a second run at Son of Semele Ensemble. Critics called the play “surreal, smart, and refreshingly funny” and applauded the writers’ ability to blend “pop culture references with the fever-dream logic that characterized Strindberg’s inferno of a mind.” LA Weekly said GO!, praising the project’s “comedic, cruel absurdity.”

Fell Swoop Playwrights is a collective of 15 Southern California-based playwrights with credits including Rogue Machine Theatre, Clubbed Thumb, Lark Play Development Center, Ensemble Studio Theatre (NYC & LA), Williamstown Theatre Festival, New Dramatists and Magic Theater.
Founded in 2012 by Tira Palmquist and Kyle T. Wilson, Fell Swoop’s mission is simple: to serve member playwrights by providing ongoing workshops, dramaturgical and administrative support, and opportunities – on the playwright’s terms.

The world premiere of Fell Swoop Playwrights’ “The Last Temptation of Paula Deen” plays for seven performances, June 6 – 29, as part of the Hollywood Fringe Festival at the Lounge Theatre, 6201 Santa Monica Boulevard in Hollywood. Tickets are $15. For tickets & information, visit hff14.org/1809.
