Smith and Martin Co. present “The Lover”, Harold Pinter’s classic one act about sex, jealousy, and identity at the Hollywood Fringe Festival.

Featuring: J.B. Waterman, Lizzie Prestel, and Bob Kundrat
Directed by: Dylan Southard and J.B. Waterman

Sarah is having an affair. Most afternoons when her husband Richard is at work, she entertains a lover in their apartment. And most afternoons, when he comes home, Richard asks a few polite questions about Sarah’s trysts. Everything has been perfectly stable in this arrangement for 10 years—until today. Suddenly Richard begins asking questions that threaten to overturn the delicate balance of their whole marriage. Pinter at his most unsettling and hilarious, The Lover exposes the hypocrisy in all relationships—especially the one with ourselves.

The LA TIMES gave Smith and Martin’s last production, “Tape”, which also starred J.B. Waterman, a “Critics Pick”. The LAist remarked, “The cast goes beyond merely conveying plot through dialogue. They expertly hone in on the unspoken, subtle, uncomfortable meta-communication of lost familiarity.”

J.B. Waterman was praised as “A Standout in the large cast” by BACKSTAGE for Need Theatre’s “Guided Consideration of a Lamentable Deed” (Directed by Dylan Southard).

Co-Helmer Dylan Southard has garnered praise as well. “Dylan Southard directs with clarity of vision”, declared the LA WEEKLY regarding Southards’s direction of “A Guided Consideration of a Lamentable Deed”.
