STANDING OVATION AT TAKE ME TO THE POORHOUSE PRESS/PREVIEW NIGHT 5/29

2013 Hollywood Fringe festival stageplay, Take Me To The Poorhouse, hosted a press night and preview at the Lounge Theatres in Hollywood on Wednesday, May 29, 2013. The event was sponsored by HTC and Dream Water.

The show, written by and starring Liz Femi, directed by Jane Morris (Behind the Candelabra, founder of Second City ETC stage in Chicago), was met with a standing ovation by the audience. Special guests in attendance included Edwina Findley (Treme’, The Wire), Moogega Cooper (King of the Nerds), Elise Neal (Belle’s, Scandal), comedy group “The Vacationeers” (It’s A Disaster), Ray Stoney (Under the Dome) and Anil Kumar (The Cape).

Guests were treated to personalized brown paper lunch gift bags styled to the performance, and several audience members walked away with headsets from
URBeats by Dre from HTC and cases of Dream Water.

Take Me To The Poorhouse is a sparkling new comedy about Lizzie, a middleclass Nigerian third grader who dreams of becoming poor in hopes of winning the heart of her popular classmate. Inspired by true events, this “upsidedown Cinderella story” is a children’s story for adults – witty and wise, hilarious and heartfelt. Audiences are offered a fresh glimpse of African life as they are introduced to a girl eager to reject herself in to order to feel like she belongs.

Liz Femi has appeared in numerous stage projects including: No Child, Eclipsed (World Premiere), and The Convert. TV and film work include: The Nick Kroll Show (Comedy Central), a supporting role in Things Never Said, starring Shanola Hampton of Showtime’s Shameless and directed by Charles Murray (V, Criminal Minds).
