Narcissus & Echo

This show blew me away. The direction is crisp and has resulted in a throbbing, exhilarating, transcendent ensemble. They dance and move together as if they've been developing this musical for years rather than a few months. It feels much more polished than your average Fringe show. What's really remarkable is that the entire cast works together so well as an ensemble, but when they get their solo moments they also excel -- you end up loving every character because they're so unique and compellin... full review

Bone Woman

This was a true Fringe experience -- I happened upon it when I had an hour to kill and decided to give it a chance. Boy am I glad I did -- it was a fantastic performance from the lead actress. Her ability to transition between four different characters was seamless and impressive. I found her utterly believable in each role as she so fully became the new person whose story she was telling. It's rare to find an actress who can make these shifts so quickly and believably that you really feel she's ... full review

This Our Now

This is a finely directed exploration of modern day relationships featuring complex and interesting staging. The subject is one that you can easily relate to and find yourself in, though sometimes it strives too hard to hit big ideas or make grand pronouncements. It would be more powerful to let those themes and notions arise out of the action and dialogue more naturally rather than being explicitly stated. It has a lot of potential for further development though, as the subject matter and writin... full review

Quantum Entanglement

A quirky and unique show -- a very interesting concept to use this scientific concept to explore parent-child relationships and mental illness. It didn't quite hit the mark in places, but the care and attention paid as well as the love and vulnerability of all involved was incredibly present. I think the honesty and charm of the cast overrode some of the weaknesses in the writing.... full review

My Mid 20's Crisis The Musical

The concept of this musical sounded fun and I very much looked forward to it, but the execution and writing were just not strong in the end. Admittedly I was not feeling well and had to leave after about 40 mins, but in what I saw, the writing was very simplistic and overly generalized and stereotyped. With a subject like this, humor best arises from moments of specificity that feel universal rather than painting in broad strokes. It just didn't land for that reason.... full review

A Harmony Boys Christmas

Overall, it was a highly amusing and entertaining night out. And as a lover of Christmas, I particularly enjoyed that slant on things. There were a couple of moments that pushed things too far for my taste, but on the whole, it was a lot of fun.... full review

THIS SIDE OF SWEETWATER

The thrust of the production -- to honor a playwright who has passed by putting on a selection of his works -- was a sweet and aching one. And you could feel the grief and sense of loss throughout, but most particularly in the epilogue, which was the most successful part of the show. It's perhaps a bit unfortunate that the other plays were so uneven in their writing and performances that the strongest part of the show was not the playwright who passed's work, but the short play written to remembe... full review

Hot Dates

Overall, the show was a fun, energetic journey through identity, sexuality, and acceptance. I very much enjoyed how the show shifted from purely an analysis of sexcapades and a woman seeking her sexuality identity to gradually working her own concerns with her disease into it -- it made her concern with companionship really pack a punch in an unexpected way. Overall, a fun and enjoyable 60 minutes with some real emotional heft in its conclusion.... full review
