Description
Soaring Solo LLC & Whitefire Theatre appreciate the courage and creativity it takes to perform a one person play. That said, they would like to recognize and celebrate excellence in solo theatre within the Hollywood Fringe Community this June 2018.
Founder & CEO of Soaring Solo LLC & Solofest Co-producer at Whitefire Theatre, Jessica Lynn Johnson, will use her 13+ years in the genre of solo theatre as a published playwright, Board member & Submission Screening Panelist of the LA Women’s Theatre Festival, and full-time solo theatre Director & Dramaturge to handpick one very special solo artist to Encore their winning solo show as part of the largest solo theatre festival on the West Coast, Whitefire Theatre’s SOLOFEST 2019.

Qualifications
Qualifications for the Soaring Solo Artist Award are as follows:
-The solo show must feature only 1 LIVE actor on stage (please note however that voiceover and video of other performers is permitted, as well as musician accompaniment on stage as long as the musician is not sharing dialogue with the solo artist in any significant way)
-The solo show must be between 20-90 minutes in length. No more, no less.
- The solo show must be executed with a high standard of excellence and professionalism.
-Solo show cannot be a production of Soaring Solo LLC.

Methodology
The Soaring Solo Artist award will be chosen using the following evaluation criteria:
-PROFESSIONALISM: The solo show is executed with a high standard of excellence and professionalism (ie. beginning on time, run time is accurate, lines are memorized, programs are well designed, technical design is on point, etc.)
-TECHNIQUE: Solo theatre technique is of a high caliber (ie. ability to play various characters and/or a single character with truth and entertaining quality, clear distinctions between scene changes & character changes, interesting use of the stage, etc.)
-COMPELLING STORY: The story whether fiction or non fiction, autobiographical or biographical, etc. must be compelling and entertaining and utilizes proper playwriting story structure.
-MARKETING: The solo show has effective savvy marketing (ie. appropriate title, evocative graphic, attendance and interaction at various marketing events, interesting merchandizing choices and giveaways, etc.)
-AUDIENCE ATTENDANCE & REVIEWS: The solo show is able to draw in a full house, get good reviews both by audience and professional reviewers.
-THEATRICALITY: The solo show uses various theatrical devices to tell the story such as multimedia, lighting and sound design, the portrayal of various characters, and/or the use of other talents like poetry/dance/singing etc.
Reward
The winner of the Soaring Solo Artist award will receive a beautiful award plaque, as well as one performance of their winning solo show in the largest solo theatre festival on the West Coast, Whitefire Theatre’s SOLOFEST 2019.
