My overall impression

I saw this performance earlier this afternoon (June 19th) and found it to be an amazing theater experience that really explores significant “issues” about culture, race, and “blackness” in America in ways that challenge, while using humor to bring the point through about the breadth and depth of the Black experience (or more truly, Black experiences) in America.

Using a multicultural cast and creating a safe space, the director really brings it home in ways that leave us all with things to think about, AND having had a great theater experience. I will definitely go to see it again while it is here, and encourage others to do the same. I really enjoyed it!

btw, i enjoyed the performance so much that after seeing it the first time (and then talking about it almost nonstop for the next week) i returned for the last showing and brought a friend (who, btw, also really enjoyed it!).

the entire cast was captivating, and I look forward to seeing more from each of them and also the excellent direction by Roger Payano. We need more theater like this here in Los Angeles!
