I could say the raw simplicity, but honestly what gobsmacked me more than anything was the performance! I swear it was almost voyeuristic, as if seeing Janis Joplin totally alone and vulnerable, with her desires and fears and hopes expressed in total privacy. A privacy we weirdly shared.
What I didn't like
Maybe it could be longer. Or not. It felt very complete and when I checked was much longer than I thought!
My overall impression
A startling, beautiful and powerful moment in the life of a great artist. Usually one-person shows try and tell a subject’s biography. This took a different turn, which startled then entranced.
