The audience participation was quite fun – both drafting an audience member to be part of the cast and having the audience recite aloud well-known lines along with actors. The pacing was good. And the adaptations of bits in the film for a modern audience were quite clever.
What I didn't like
They weren’t trying to be Chekov, Ibsen, or Pinter, so it’s hard to criticize. I suppose I just missed the line “And Leon is getting larger!” And this is more a criticism of the venue staff than the production, but I could hear people out in the hallway during the show. They need to do a better job of keeping the common areas of the venue quiet during performances.
My overall impression
I was skeptical that a beloved comedy could be adapted to the stage, but they managed to pull it off. Obviously, they couldn’t cram the whole movie into an hour-long show, so some cuts had to be made, but the major beats were there and so were the major lines.
