AMERICAN BRUTUS is the World Premiere of a new solo play, written and performed by Tim Venable, that goes into the heart and soul of our country’s most notorious assassin, John Wilkes Booth, by using Booth’s diaries following Lincoln’s murder as he fled the scene of the crime, letters written to friends, family, and loved ones, performed in a dynamic interplay with powerful scenes and speeches from Shakespeare’s plays that Booth had played on American stages; and because he was an actor who knew this world inside and out, and the fact that Lincoln was killed at a theatre, as well as the stunning parallels to our current political climate (Booth: “The country is not what it was. This forced union is not what I have loved. I care not what becomes of me.”), audiences will be taken on an emotional, terrifying, and unexpected journey, and discover why John Wilkes Booth was compelled to kill President Abraham Lincoln at Ford’s Theatre in Washington D.C. the night of April 14th, 1865.
