What I liked
OK, I’ll admit: my expectations were modest—considering the constraints of the “one-person show” form, and (frankly) the age of the playwright. Boy, could I not have been more UTTERLY wrong. This was really something of a tour-de-force, as the astonishingly talented Ortega effortlessly moves from character to character, across gulfs of time and distance, to weave together a poignant, funny and deeply moving story that not only pays tribute to the past, but to the past’s most profound legacy within us: strength in facing our own futures, as they manifest. Alpharaoh’s direction is clearly top-notch, here—he really brings this material to a pitch of elegant and spare presentation, marked by rich moments of laughter, terror, and beauty.
What I didn't like
(Like everything in Studio C, it’s a bit, er…cramped. But that’s Fringe for ya!)
