21st Century Marilyn

A one actor show that speaks to the issues facing all of us as we age in an industry that thrives on physical attractiveness. Well written and well performed with just the right amount of scenery and costume to set the stage. I have a feeling that the author has even more to say to us and I look forward to her next creation.... full review

This is definitely a play for the silver hairs, and just might be a Fringe Hit. Although Sandy Mansson is a bit clumsy as an aged Marilyn who is clueless that everything and everyone that she is familiar with in Hollywood is either old or nonexistent, the truth and commitment to a modern day Marilyn rates high on the richter scale of Marilyn portrayals. Albeit an older and out of touch Marilyn. The direction was also a bit clumsy as well as the technical execution but overall the show was "cute" and "delicate" and declares a problem with modern day Hollywood when elderly actresses can't get a job. I say go and see it at least once.... full review

Sandy Mansson obviously is a fan of Marilyn Monroe and does her best to portray the silver screen legend as a middle-aged bombshell with little prospects for work. Although she wears a copy of the iconic white dress, Ms. Mansson seems to have forgotten the proper posture needed to carry off the look and slumps her way around the stage rather than carrying herself as the star she was. Most of the bits are funny, especially during auditions where her lack of confidence throws Marilyn into a tizzy. But other bits, such as putting on her make-up while humming some of her famous on-screen songs dragged in tempo. Ms. Mansson would do well to introduce the concept verbally at the beginning of the show when Marilyn wakes up to discover it's... full review
